Where were you born (you don’t have to share the date with us if you don’t want to!) and where do you live now?

I was born in 1946 in a village just outside Halifax called Luddendenfoot. I have since lived in Wakefield, Ossett and I now live in Horbury.

Summarise your musical career to date in no more than twenty words!

I started to play in my late thirties when my children were young. It was something inexpensive we could do together.

When did you join Shepley Band – and more importantly, why on earth did you join?!

I had been asked to guest play on their tour to Sweden and enjoyed it. So when I was asked again to go to Italy in 2010 I thought I had better join up.

What do you enjoy about being part of Shepley Band? We assume you enjoy the band of course!

Besides enjoying making music, it is a good social experience giving me chance to meet people of all ages from all walks of life that I probably wouldn’t get to meet normally.

What has been your favourite moment with Shepley Band?

Without a doubt the concert in Sweden in 2008 and the warm welcome we received from the local community and the first concert we played in Italy in 2010 coming a very close second.

What’s your favourite piece of music of all time?

Haven’t got one

Who’s your favourite composer? Those still living don’t count by the way – it’s all noise with them!

Haven’t got one, on the whole I prefer making music rather than listening to it.
Apart from all the hours you put in every day practising (obviously) what else do you get up to in the real world?

Besides playing in several bands I look after our 4 youngest grand children on a regular basis, we have nine in all ranging from 2yrs.-22yrs. Eating out with friends and family and caravanning.

Fantasy Dinner Table – imagine you’re having dinner – who would you want on either side of you – and why?

My husband’s two elderly aunts (90 & 85years) they are fantastic company and never fail to make me laugh.

Oh, and what’s your favourite food – after Sheila’s World Famous Ginger Biscuits?

As a foodholic I like most things especially if it has been cooked for me.

Your private plane is sitting on the runway at Shepley Aerodrome. Where would you like to go today – and why?

I don’t Know since I am content with Great Britain can’t beat it for diversity.

You’re a very modest individual, shy and retiring (like everyone in Shepley Band) – but what’s been your greatest achievement to date?

Besides giving birth to two wonderful children, proving the educationalists wrong and gaining an Honours Degree in Education in my late thirties. I am also pretty proud of passing my grade 4&5 music on the cornet. Thanks to the Beatty family help way beyond the call of duty.

We seem to be living in a celebrity culture today – so if you could be a celebrity who would you be and why?

Don’t fancy the celebrity life style, though it would be nice to be really, really good at something.

You’ve managed to get the TV remote control all to yourself. If you could have an evening of your favourite telly programmes what would you watch (after you’d finished daily practise of course)?

Any ‘Who Done It’ I love to solve mysteries. Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice. Good documentaries but definitely no soaps.

Finally, you found an old oil lamp on your way out of our Christmas Concert. You rubbed it and Jude the Shepley Band Genie appeared and granted you three wishes. What did you wish for?

1. For our daughter to make a full recovery from cancer.

2. For my fingers to connect with my brain, I would dearly love to be       able to wiggle my fingers as fast as Jonathan Woodcock

3.To enjoy good health with my lovely Lionel, and family and live to a              ripe old age. Would the Christmas Genie count that as two wishes? I             hope not.

Who are you and what instrument do you play?

Hello there I am Jennifer Scrupps though most folks know me as Jenny or Jen. I play the flugelhorn.
