Where were you born (you don’t have to share the date with us if you don’t want to!) and where do you live now?
I was born in Stockton on Tees, and moved to Shepley in 1989 after a spell “down south”
Summarise your musical career to date in no more than twenty words!
Tempted to try an instrument as my boys were learning; started on tenor horn as we picked one up cheap when Woods closed; followed a whim and am LOVING learning the FRENCH HORN :D (33)
When did you join Shepley Band – and more importantly, why on earth did you join?!
My husband is to blame for that, he can be very persuasive and I can’t often hold out! (is that too much information? ) It may have been around 5 – 6 years ago, time passes so quickly (especially when you’re enjoying yourself) More to the point..I love it. Playing in the band challenges me in so many ways that I quite often surprise myself, which is no bad thing.
What do you enjoy about being part of Shepley Band? We assume you enjoy the band of course!
They’re such a supportive bunch. Not just in all things musical but in life too.
What has been your favourite moment with Shepley Band?
I loved swimming in the lake in Sweden at 8 o’clock, nearly everyone joined in regardless of age. It was beautiful. And fun. They nearly left me to “sleep in”
What’s your favourite piece of music of all time?
I love pieces from Vaughan Williams, Gladiator and Paulo Nuttino, plus anything featuring the French Horn, but hold on….it’ll all change next week. Oh and Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks.
Who’s your favourite composer? Those still living don’t count by the way – it’s all noise with them!
I’m the sort of person with a poor memory for composers or names of pieces,,,,but playing in the band is introducing me to more and more composers and styles. Ask me again in a few years and see if I can make up my mind then!
I’m currently enjoying pieces by Saint-Saens
Apart from all the hours you put in every day practising (obviously) what else do you get up to in the real world?
I earn my living in the Health Service, parent 2 growing boys. Oliver who’s at home and Lewis at Uni. I love my dogs, reading, learning to garden and learning to run
Fantasy Dinner Table – imagine you’re having dinner – who would you want on either side of you – and why?
Michael Parkinson, to give me the insider knowledge on all those interesting people and Johny Depp (pirates rule OK )
Oh, and what’s your favourite food – after Sheila’s World Famous Ginger Biscuits?
Mushrooms, all varieties! (except the poisonous ones, and the stinky ones)
Your private plane is sitting on the runway at Shepley Aerodrome. Where would you like to go today – and why?
Anywhere I haven’t been already. I say this because I have a sense of there being wonderful people to meet and beautiful places to visit everywhere – including the bits of England I don’t know yet!
You’re a very modest individual, shy and retiring (like everyone in Shepley Band) – but what’s been your greatest achievement to date?
I’ve done some work within diabetes services redesign locally which is just making its way to fruition. It’s taken a while but well worth the wait.
Oh and I managed to run/ jog 5k last summer. Never, ever thought of myself as someone who ran.
We seem to be living in a celebrity culture today – so if you could be a celebrity who would you be and why?
Celebrity…pah tell them to get a life and come to Shepley Band, this is real life.
You’ve managed to get the TV remote control all to yourself. If you could have an evening of your favourite telly programmes what would you watch (after you’d finished daily practise of course)?
Detectives especially Morse, with the mysterious, enigmatic music
and Cold Feet., both are blasts from the past but that’s me.
Finally, you found an old oil lamp on your way out of our Christmas Concert. You rubbed it and Jude the Shepley Band Genie appeared and granted you three wishes. What did you wish for?
1. My children are successful enough to be happy and healthy
2. Tony and I enjoy getting older together “disgracefully” :D
3. The current economic recession is resolved without too much more
hardship all round.
4. That I get to be a decent French horn player!!!(that’s ruined any chance as all good musicians can count hehehe )
