Gayle started learning piano in primary school and quickly gave it up as a bad job. Then, being passed a cornet by her grandfather that he had played in his youth started a long and enduring love of brass banding, starting with the school brass band and most recently playing tenor horn with Deepcar Brass Band, in the 4th Section. In 2009 however, Gayle felt that her life was missing something and started to learn clarinet, progressing quickly through the grades. One thing led to another and now Gayle seems to be determined to learn every instrument in the orchestra, having taken on the challenge of piano, saxophone and violin, as well as playing regularly in her church on Sundays. One wonders how she has time for anything else?
She is currently playing 3rd clarinet in Shepley Band.
