Shepley Band is a group of amateur musicians playing brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. The group meets weekly to rehearse and the band performs at a number of engagements throughout the year. It has an objective of making music fun and accessible for all and plays a key role in the local community. Indeed, Shepley Band is part of a strong musical heritage that goes back to the mid-1800’s. The reputation of the band continues to grow and is attracting more and more new players. In August 2008 the band visited Sweden and performed a number of engagements to very appreciative audiences. August 2010 saw Shepley Band around Lake Garda in Italy where the band played three concerts to huge audiences. The band intends to tour abroad again in 2012.
Members range in age from the young to the young at heart and from a wide background of careers and musical experiences. They all share one common passion however - to come together to play and enjoy a wide range of music.
There are no competitions; the only pressure you’ll feel is of your own making and everyone is hugely supportive of each other. New members settle into the band quickly and join in the fun - but we all remain focused on doing our best - both individually and for the good of the band.
The band continues to diversify and in 2010 recruited a talented vocalist who brings a unique dimension to the band. Now the band is expanding with the addition of the choir, A Perfect Fifth, and a number of smaller musical groups to add to its repertoire of music and broaden its appeal to a wider range of local musicians.
